Unwelcome Change

The field where I saw the buck a few weeks ago is due to be leveled to make way for new townhomes.  Do we really need new townhomes when folks can barely afford to pay the homes they have and there are so many foreclosures and short sales on the market here?  It makes me sad to think of the wildlife that will lose their habitat, small as it is now.  There's a young hawk that I see almost daily sitting on the brush waiting for prey.  Where will the deer go?

When I drove by the beautiful field today, they had it "taped off" to show where the buildings will be.  There will be no field left, no wildflowers blooming on the side of the road, no more homes for groundhogs, deer, and hawks.  Instead it will all be replaced with concrete, homes with no yards, more traffic, and impatient people.  I'm so sad.

Oh Genny, I agree, it is sad. We can't sustain urban sprawl much longer. Urban revitalization is what's needed.

Genny, it’s heart breaking. It is happening everywhere and it’s just crazy. You are right--we have so many homes that are empty and foreclosed upon--do we really need to build more and further disturb or ruin the precious few wildlife areas left. It makes me so sad.

Amy and Andrea: The '60s rebel in me wants to put up a sign that says "Leave the habitat alone. Wildlife need homes too." LOL! It does make me incredibly sad.

I know how you feel, Genny. But Your area is the up and coming place to live. Since I've learned you live there now I relize that so many of my coworkers live in that area. It must be a great place to live! I'm sorry the animals will be forced to move. Poor little guys. I'll help you put up that sign if you want!
