How I Spent My Weekend

Here are the before photos of my weekend-long painting job. It actually took me longer than a weekend, since I started it last weekend. The dining room was painted in shades of red and green (ugh, double ugh), red on the top and green on the bottom. Part of the wall that had a box attached to it was blue once the box was removed. Since I'm renting my house out, I thought it would be nice to change those hideous colors to something a little more neutral and tenant friendly.

Of course, I had to prime first. It took three coats of primer to cover the red.

Here is the finished wall, nicely done in antique white and green on the bottom. Not colors I would have chosen for myself, but I was trying to avoid having to paint the entire room. I left the green and just painted the top part, but I think it looks good! I'll change it once I move back in four years!

Very nice change, Genny. I'll send you the keys to my house and you can come paint here.

Is that a FloorMate I spy in the background? And a Jenner oven?

Thanks for the compliment! I actually enjoy painting when I don't feel rushed, and I don't bother taping because it just takes entirely too long. I have a pretty steady hand. Yes, that's a FloorMate, but I liked my old one better. The new models don't seem to hold as much cleaning solution and they seem more awkward to use somehow. I LOVE my stove. It's a GE profile electric with a ceramic top and self-cleaning oven. It's stainless with stainless knobs. I kind of indulged myself there because I just loved the way it looks and cooks. It has warming element and a bridge on the left side so you can put a griddle all the way across.

Hey Genny!

I have that same stove too (black knobs though) and I love it. Just got it before Christmas. I was sold on the arched glass window. ha ha

I love the new paint but I also loved your vivid red.
Best of luck with your move and getting good renters.

I loooove my Floormate but in this house it is sucking the old wood filler out from between the 100-yo floorboards!

Your house is really lovely, Genny. Of course I'm a fan of red, but I'm also a fan of soothing neutrals. Call me complex. I think you are making the right choice to rent out!

And yeah,nice stove!
